Olivar Market (Mercat de l’Olivar) – covered food market near Placa d’Espanya. The former traditional market of a sensual culinary magnet for visitors has become – not just for tourists, as well as locals increasingly use the opportunity for a gastronomic stop.
The Mercat d’Olivar is located at the historic city center of Palma de Mallorca. Constructed in 1951, the bright building in the style of Mediterranean architecture is made up of two connected parts, which open up onto a square, much like two welcoming arms, that invite you to take a stroll and serve as a popular meeting point. After 47 years of bustling activity the Mercat de l’Olivar was restructured and transformed into a trading company. Traders are the merchants operating at the market. In 1998 the company obtained an administration license, which led to a thorough rearrangement that lasted until 2003. The fish, meat, fruit and vegetable guilds got reorganized and obtained their own areas, which are still interlinked, communicating the atmosphere of an airy and collaboratively well organized market hall. The natural exposure to light was optimized with a better distribution and a light, Mediterranean illumination. Access to the market hall was improved as well with escalators leading from the 1st to the 2nd floor. A new ceramic floor offers a comfortable and clean way for our customers, their shopping carts and the market suppliers.

On the first floor you can find a Mercadona supermarket, which complements our range of goods.
