Iglesia Nova Son Servera is something very unique. This beautiful architectural project is located in the village of Son Servera. Iglesia Nova was built by Catalan architect Joan Rubio i Bellver and his partner Antoni Gaudí. Although the name suggests otherwise („Iglesia Nova“ in Spanish mean „The new church“), the place has no roof.
The construction works were started in 1905. Antoni Gaudí was in charge of finding the necessary financing. Unfortunately, the works had to be stoped in 1929 due to economic problems, but conservation works were carried out. Various complementary works were done in 2007 and 2008, but finally it was left unfinished. Nowadays, it is used as a place for religious celebrations, and a cultural events.
This beautiful building has a typical Gothic architectural elements such as strong heavy windows and rose windows, and a very special magic by being open to the sky.
