The tram Of Port de Soller

The tram of Port de Soller is a tourist attraction in itself. It travels from Port de Soller to the village of Soller through the valley. Its passengers can adore the olive, lemon and orange groves on the way. If you wish to, from Soller you can take the vintage train to city of Palma.
So, enjoy the island’s first electric tram in the island. In 1913 Mallorca’s first electric tram line was inaugurated, running between Sóller and the Port of Sóller. After the inauguration of the Palma to Sóller railway line, connstruction of the Sóller tram began. The project for this line was designed and directed by Pedro Garau, and 4868 metres of track were laid. The tram had an electric power station located in the Sóller station.

The Sóller tram was designed for the transport of passengers, but it was also used to transport a different things down to the port. Fresh fish, oranges, lemons, almond nuts, mines and torpedoes was carried from the Port to Sóller to Soller. The three motor trams, numbered 1 to 3, and their trailers 5 and 6 are the originals, dating from 1912.

Whilst the tram is an experience in itself, the views out over the mountains and the valleys through orange and lemon groves are simply delightful. This is a popular attraction throughout the year.
