Porto Cristo

Porto Cristo is a charming little fishing villige on the east coast of Mallorca. Porto Cristo is a safe, relaxed, family-friendly resort with a long, blue flag sandy beach. Porto Cristo means “Port of Christ” and got this name when a boat with a crucifix washed up on the beach.
Some fifty years ago, Porto Cristo was one of the main tourist resorts on the east coast of Mallorca, but everything changed when the large tourist resort of Cala Millor came along. The port is the main attraction here in Porto Cristo. There are many local restaurants to have luch or enjoy a drinki n the sun. Porto Cristo is popular destination for British, German and Scandinavian tourists.
It is interesting, that Porto Cristo was also the only town in Mallorca participated in the Spanish Civil War. Nowadays, Porto Cristo still has its charm, with ancient stone houses, magificent white villas and the boats in the harbor. Porto Cristo suitable for modern boat-owners as well. There are many archaeological finds, including the prehistoric burial sites of Sa Gruta and Son Moro or a Roman Basilica, in the surroundings In the end of 20th century, more and more tourists started to visit the area, but the town has managed to keep its original charm.
