Arta

Arta

Artà is situated in the north of the island of Mallorca and sits in the middle of a large valley at the foot of a small mountain. Arta is a few kilometres inland from the north-east coast which is 25 km long. The highest and most compact massif in the eastern mountain chain of the Serres de Llevant, occupies more than half the area of the municipality. Capital Palma is around 60 km away.
The residents of Arta are primarily Mallorquin but the town attract tourists as well. Arta is full on Tuesdays for its weekly market, which is famous for its local pottery and basket weaving. Arta has very rich cultural heritage and attract tourists for its historic landmarks, like the Bronze Age Talaiotic settlement of Ses Paisses, the Sanctuary of Sant Salvador, and the legendary Caves of Arta.
Anyway, Arta is untouched by tourism, comparing with other cities of Mallorca. Arta is a perfect destination to discover the authentic rural Mallorca. The closest beach is about 10 km away and is easy to access by a car or public transport.
