Torre de Cala Pi is a beautiful and iconic old defense and observation tower, located in the quiet Cala Pi area, at the southeastern coastal part of Llucmajor.
The tower was built in 1663, actually almost 100 years after its neighbors and the many other medieval observation towers of the coasts. The most violent pirate attacks on Mallorca occurred during the 16th century when Ottoman pirates from Turkey allied themselves with Berber vandals and took Sa Cabrera, south of Mallorca, from where they mobilized troops. Torre de Cala Pi is strategically located on the cliff tops of Cala Pi, where the 10 meter high tower is still guarded. The tower was renovated in 1970 by the architect, Antoni Alomar. It is quite easy to get to Torre de Cala Pi, which is at the end of the road, with nice parking facilities for both car and bike. Use the map below to view.
